A friend used a phrase today that rang particularly true for me. They said ‘I feel I’m sometimes tired without having actually achieved anything.’ Sometimes just being in our situations can be tiring and it’s not until we’re tired-out that we realise it. There is so much value in taking a day off to do whatever it is that ‘refreshes the soul.’
I already took a day off earlier in the week for my birthday but, I’ve been reflecting on what ‘refreshes the soul’ – for me, it is always different; sometimes it is to explore, sometimes to do something different, sometimes to be active, sometimes to be creative and sometimes to do nothing. Whatever is good to do, it is important to take time to do it.
I’ve been finding it really challenging to take 10 minutes each day to sit and reflect but this morning I started my day by reflecting on the Psalm for my age (Psalm 25) and the first five verses I found really assuring.
The Psalmist writes:
“To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, I trust in You…
Show me Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.”
And so my prayer for today is that each of us might lift up our souls to God each day and that He will strengthen and guide us as we wait on Him.

Count Your Blessings fact: Christian Aid Partner CCDB is introducing duck rearing to families in areas of Bangladesh where climate change has caused rivers and groundwater to become salty and where traditional farming methods are more difficult. Duck-rearing means that Roban Biswas is now able to send his children to school. For more of Roban’s story click here.

My group for Group Services the other week used a Graham Kendrick song based on Psalm 25 for a reflection time in our service :-)
